Barrett, Isaac (b. 23 JAN 1788, d. 13 NOV 1869)
Note: !In 1824 Isaac Barrett left the Homestead and came down the hill and bought the
present homestead of Harold H. Barrett (1957). Isaac Barrett's farm was
originally Farm Lot No. 15, of the Morris Lot, and was sold after the Revolution
to Stephen Whitney, who sold it to his son-in-law, Michael Vandervoort, who kept
a tavern there in the olden times. It was sold to Isaac by William and Sarah
Vandervoort 9 Apr 1829. The farm extended north to a point below the Baptist
church. The old orchard south of the house was the place where the first
meetings of the Baptist society were held, and the church lot was donated by Mr.
Isaac Barrett, who, with his family, was closely identified with the advancement
and welfare of the society. Isaac Barrett died aged 81/9/10 (2) on 13 Nov 1869.
Isaac is listed by Wheeler as a son of Isaac Barrett and Jemima Lockwood (4).
Isaac's will was signed 10 Dec 1860 and mentions his wife Rachel, daughter
Sally, wife of Thomas B. Wilson, and son Peter B. Barrett (5). On 10 Dec 1869
Rachel Barrett and Peter B. Barrett petitioned Putnam County Surrogate Court
representing that Isaac Barrett of Carmel died 13 Nov 1869. He had previously
executed a last will and testament. Rachel was his widow and Peter the only
surviving child. The petitioners stated that the estate and effects did not
exceed in value the sum of about $20,000. The petition was signed by Rachel
with her mark and by Peter with his signature (1).
