Note: !James Barrett had five sons and seven daughters.
!James Barrett had five sons and seven daughters (KBK).
The following is per Louanne Barrett. She has not named the parents of this
James. She says "one of the two James had to be Isaac's brother, based on logic,
not evidence":
.
Deed of Sale, 20 Jun 1783, sold to David Frost by the Commissioners of
Forfeiture for the Middle District (John Hathorn, Samuel Dodge, Daniel Graham)
160 acres of loyalist Morris land in Fredericksburgh Precinct in Dutchess
County, N.Y. border Minthorn (or China) Pond, and Coles (or Barrett) Pond,
presently "IN POSSESSION OF JAMES BARRIT" adjacent (on the east) to Isaac
Barrett, our progenitor. This indicates that James was a Loyalist during the
Revolution, and prior to 1783 lived on this land without a title to it.
.
1790 U.S. Census, Frederickstown Twsp, Dutchess County, NY; p. 84, printed
version. James Barret living between our "Isaac Barret, Jr." and "James Barret,
Jr." This James has two males 16 or above, 1 male under 16, and 7 females.
(James Barret Jr. is over 16, has 3 males under 16, 4 females.)
.
1800 Census, Frederick Twsp, Dutchess County, NY, James has 1 male 10-16, 1
male 16-26, and is himself 45 or over. There is a daughter under 10, another
10-16, a third 16-26, and his wife is 45 or over. Ephraim Whitney lives between
him and our earliest Isaac. Elijah Barrett, age 16-26, lives on the other side
of James. This seems to be the same James as in the 1790 Census above.
.
(1800 Census, T. of Frederick, P. 77 James Jr. is 31101-31110.)
.
1810 Censuses: One James: p. 206 20010-10010
The other James: p. 215 00010-00111
.
Will: If this is the same James Barrett of Philipstown whose will was dated 6
Apr. 1812 and probated 10 Jun 1812, he had sons Thomas, Samuel, Caleb, Joshua,
Ferris and 7 unnamed daughters. He also could not be James of 1790; would have
to be James, Jr. Since no son James is named in his will. If he is James Jr.,
he could not be the brother of Isaac Jr., as recorded in the 1790 Census,
unless one is named "Jr." after someone other than his father, which is
possible.

Note: ! Allen Barrett was the last to own the homestead on Barrett Hill, Carmel, NY
(1). His will signed 01 Jun 1874, listing Allen of Carmel, mentions son James
W., father John, wife Sarah D. Barrett, and grandson, child of deceased daughter
Charity Maria Smith. The will was probated 13 Aug 1878 (2). Although Allen
Barrett is shown born in Putnam County in 1811, Putnam was not formed from
Dutchess County until 12 June 1812.
"Isaac, the revolutionary soldier born in 1752, died in 1821, but I could not
find his wife, Jemima's, grave. They had five children; their son, John, and his
wife, Sarah Drew who lived "102 years, 7 months and 5 days," are here buried.
The latter had twelve children, and their son, Allen, who married also a Sarah
Drew, daughter of James Drew, came into possession of the old homestead of which
the burying ground was a part; and his heirs sold it to John Parker who sold it
to the present owner" (3).
