from Bernice Gottswald: "To say that Robert was a truck driver is an
understatement. When we last saw him in summer 1992, he and his sons Robert
and David were operating a fleet of a dozen tractors, which pulled the large
trailers. They had teams of two drivers who kept them going over the road 24
hours a day--one slept while the other drove. Robert was badly afflicted with
diabetes with all its complications. However, his daughter Helena told me that
he died of a virulent form of leukemia which struck and killed swiftly. Robert
was my favorite first cousin, and his wife Theresa is a very dear person. We
met their family when their children gave Robert and Theresa a 40th anniversary
party in Brewster. Robert's children gave him a trip to the Peterbuilt truck
factory which was a highlight of his life as he was really sold on Peterbilts.
They visited us once with Robert at the wheel of a tractor. We will miss him
sadly."
