!Barbara Elizabeth Corson: Autobiographical sketch prepared for the Barrett
Family Reunion held August 11, 1990 at Port Hadlock, WA.:
I'm the third child of Geoff and Heidi Barrett Corson. My folks bought
the house where I grew up in 1956, the same year I was born, so all my
childhood memories are of that big old country home. My interests in nature,
animals and things historical were established early, growing up as we did
surrounded by countryside, critters, and functional antiques (e.g. old
furniture handed down from previous generations). It was such a happy
childhood that I've been reluctant to grow up!
In my late teens and early 20's, I was occupied by a variety of part-time
jobs and part-time studies. I was also able to travel a little and indulge my
interest in languages. Going to school part-time spread out my education years
a little; I graduated from nursing school in 1980, finished a B.S. in biology
in 1985 and finally graduated from veterinary school in 1989.
I got married in 1980, but my first husband Bill and I grew apart over the
years as he became more urban-oriented and I became more and more determined to
have a rural life-style. The stresses of my first year in vet school were the
last straw and we were divorced in 1986. Looking back, getting divorced was
probably the 2nd smartest thing I ever did.
Probably the smartest thing I ever did was attending a square dance one
evening during my 2nd year in vet school, where I met my second (and last)
husband Jeff Muehlmatt. We were married in 1988. Jeff is a horse-shoer/
blacksmith who grew up in Media (a Philadelphia suburb), but he learned his
trade while living in Wyoming and California. In 1987 we bought an old
"fixer-upper" house in Nottingham (southeastern PA). We don't have any
children, but we do have 3 dogs, 4 cats, 3 goats, 2 sheep, 2 horses and 2
steers. Can you guess why Jeff isn't here this weekend?
I work at a small vet clinic in Oxford, PA about 5 miles from our home.
My schedule allows me a good bit of time free to pursue hobbies and to keep
house, which is a lot of fun. Jeff has a forge in his truck and he drives
around all day shoeing horses at farms in PA, MD, and Del. When we have time
off together we like to ride our horses, canoe, take walks, sit and watch the
weeds grow, or chase escaped goats. We also enjoy "living history"--dressing
in 18th century clothes and hanging around at historical sites. I always did
like costumes as a child--see what I mean about being reluctant to grow up?!

Autobiographical sketch prepared for the Barrett Family Reunion held August 11,
1990 at Port Hadlock, WA.:
I am the number four child of Geoff and Heidi Corson. I have lived all my
life in Dauphin, PA. and have many happy memories of growing up in the country
with my brother Alan, and my sisters Linda and Barb. In 1979 my sister Linda
and I moved next door to a little rustic house which my parents had bought.
There we live in semi-independence, along with a menagerie of collected animals.
My interests over the years have included a variety of things, including
hang gliding, (never got good at it!) bicycle racing (did better at that!) and
most recently... trucking (time will tell how well I'm doing in this category).
I started driving a truck in 1981 and bought my own in 1986. I have it leased
to a company called West Motor Freight, which has it's terminal in a little
town called Boyertown, PA. which is about 60 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
One day, Dec. 12, 1988 to be exact, I was picking up a load at a steel ware-
house in Chicago, IL., when I met another West Motor Freight owner/operator,
Robin Brunner. Surprise, surprise, he was picking up a load for the same
place that I was, namely Boston, MA. He had been with West for 4 years, and
I had been there for 2, but we had never met each other. We drove all the
way to Boston together, with both of us (mostly me) talking non-stop. And
we've been together ever since! We still drive seperate trucks, but usually
get dispatched to the same areas of the northeast. We have a lot of fun
"touring" the countryside together and visiting on the C.B. radio as we go
along.
Rob enjoys fishing and being outdoors when our busy driving schedules allow
it.
