Barrett, Marcus (b. 14 APR 1749, d. 21 APR 1825)

!Marcus Barrett was named after his grandfather Marcus Moseman. During the
Revolutionary War, he was a member of the 2nd Regiment, Westchester County
Militia. He was on the Bedford Tax List of 1779; real estate L10.0 and personal
tax L10.0. He was on the Census of Bedford of 1790; himself/wife/four sons
under 16yrs/five girls.
A memo by Joseph Barrett says that Marcus inherited the present Rufus K. Barrett
farm of 200 acres on Broad Brook Road. He sold it to Samuel Barrett and removed
to Putnam County. Marcus' name is on the original Buxton Cemetery papers of
1788.
Marcus Barrett of the Town of Carmel signed his will 21 Mar 1825 in Putnam
County, leaving son Samuel $1000.00, son Marcus $1400.00, daughter Mary $500.00
and widow Cloe the rest of the estate for her lifetime. His executors were
Barnabus Carver, Samuel and Marcus Barrett, Jr. Witnesses were Soloman Barrett,
Jr. and Merchant Willison. He died aged 76/0/7. The will was probated
07 Apr 1825. Abizer Parce and Thomas J. Parce appraised his property.
The following advertisement was in the Peekskill-Columbian Chronicle on 14 Jul
1825: Farm of Marcus Barrett, deceased. Town of Carmel, Putnam County, State of
New York. 155 acres - good buildings and orchard. Executors: Samuel Barrett -
Marcus Barrett.
Marcus Barrett is buried in the Barrett Cemetery near the Carmel Country Club.

contested the will, but were unsuccessful. Wheeler says Marcus born Carmel.
