Note: !Samuel Barrett(4) is on the list of freeholders of Bedford in 1763. He and
Roger Lyon ran a mill on Broad Brook at Broad Brook Road and on 8 Jan 1783
Samuel bought Roger Lyon's share. This was right after the 30 Nov 1782 signing
of the peace articles in Paris ending the Revolutionary War. Samuel, being in
his late 50s, most likely spent the war years keeping the farm and mill
producing, while his sons were away fighting. The Barrett Homestead, lived in
by Samuel, was on the south side of Broad Brook Road and the west side of the
stream, a small farm house now supplanted by Route 684.
