Note: !John Barrett was a Whig and a Methodist Episcopalian. He built the first
store at Bedford Station. He lived in Bedford Station and for a short time in
Molbury, Ulster County, NY, returning to Bedford.

Note: !William Barrett served as a private, Company B, New York 71st Infantry and
orderly sergeant in the 48th New York Regiment for two years under General
Sherman during the Civil War. He spent 10 years with the N.Y.C. police
department. He farmed in Minnesota and on Long Island. He was in the grocery
business in N.Y.C. He belonged to the Veteran Association of the 48th New York
in Brooklyn. William Barrett retired to Bedford Station after 12 years on Long
Island. He was a Republican, and member of the Baptist Church.
